"Lydian Child" - Digital Single

The inspiration behind “Lydian Child” was the somewhat ‘supernatural’ power of synesthesia. People who experience this can essentially ‘feel’ sounds. This presents itself in a variety of ways, but the most common is seeing colours that represent different pitches, chords, tonal centres, etc. There are many musicians and non-musicians alike who possess these abilities, another example being perfect pitch (the ability to identify or recreate any note without the benefit of a reference tone). Lydian Child is a nod to these musical ‘powers’, playfully setting the tune within a cinematic, superhero-style composition. The extensive use of the Lydian mode gives the song its air of mystique, but also its positivity and sense of reaching triumphantly into the beyond.
